Metabolic syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess fat around the waist, and high cholesterol in the body. The combination of these pathologies increases the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes

The presence of one of the set of diseases does not mean metabolic syndrome However, any of these conditions can increase the risk of serious illness

If you have metabolic syndrome or one of its components, radical lifestyle changes can delay or completely prevent serious health problems.
Metabolic syndrome is usually caused by obesity and inactivity

Metabolic syndrome is related to a condition called insulin resistance Under normal conditions, the digestive system breaks down food into sugar (glucose). The pancreas secretes the hormone insulin, which allows glucose to enter the cell so that the cell can use it for energy.

In insulin-resistant patients, the cells do not respond to insulin normally, and as a result, glucose cannot enter the cell freely. This condition causes blood glucose levels to rise despite the body's attempts to get glucose into the cell by oversecreting insulin.

This condition can lead to the development of diabetes because the body cannot produce enough insulin to allow the glucose in the blood to enter the cells.
Diseases associated with metabolic syndrome are often asymptomatic, although a large waist circumference is a prominent sign. If you have high blood sugar, you may have symptoms of diabetes: increased thirst and urination, fatigue, and blurred vision.
